Fuel could back up into emission parts and literally destroy them. However this may help steer you toward a resolution. If it starts right up then it was probably water in the gas, although i doubt nj has been that cold yet to create that condition.
As the fuel pump starts to go bad, you might notice a rough idle, hesitation and other performance issues. Also with the hose disconnected from the purge valve while the car is running put your finger over the nipple of the valve, you will feel vacuum. Then it will start and run perfectly until the next gas stop where the whole process repeats itself.

If car still dosent start even with starting fluid be several possibilities; So i have noticed that when i fill my gas tank it won't crank the first time, but ai. My check engine light is on.
If you do the valve is bad. The first thing you should take a look into when the anti theft system car wont start is the car battery. If it has a problem then it's most likely a bad fuel pump.
She says that adding a little bit of oil to the engine helps, but i don't think that's actually the problem.
